Description:
Psychological First Aid is the "acute intervention of choice" when responding to the psychosocial needs of children, adults, and families affected by disaster and terrorism. Developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, with contributions from other individuals involved in coordinating and participating in disaster response, Psychological First Aid is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping.

The Oklahoma Stress Response Team is offering this in collaboration with Eastern Central University.  Presenters include Craig Long, MHR, LPC-S, CFRC, Deborah Johnson, PhD, MSW, LCSW & Loren Stein, MSN, RNC-NIC

Continuing Education for multiple disciplines is offered including LPC/LMFT, Social Work, RN & CLEET.

Description:
Mental Health and Stress Awareness provide the most current information on mental health statistics and trends in the US and in Oklahoma. The presentation identifies signs and symptoms to assess, as well as, risk factors and protective factors. This presentation discusses actions to take and strategies to support individual and community resilience.

This presentation will be followed with others as part of the Open House for the new Emergency Operations Center!

Description:
Taking a trauma -informed approach with people describes the different types of traumas people experience, the incidence of trauma in various populations, and the effects of trauma on people. The presentation identifies the characteristics and key principles of a trauma-informed approach. In addition, trauma-informed care and Universal expectations as strategies to resist re-traumatization are explained. Lastly, mitigating vicarious trauma for providers is discussed.

Target Audience: The target audience includes public health, healthcare and mental health systems, faith leaders, law enforcement and fire responders, and Medical Reserve Corps Unit leaders and volunteers.

This presentation will explore the current national and Oklahoma statistics and trends related to suicide and overdose and address the signs of emotional distress in others.  We will discuss risk factors for suicide and overdose as well as the protective factors and review actions that you can take to help others.

10/15 - Responding to Crisis in Children & Teens
       Presented by Kathy Wickham, MS, RN, CPN & Deborah Johnson, PhD, MSW, LCSW
      10 a.m. - Noon
This training will equip participants with the ability to identify and utilize suitable resources for supporting children and teens in crisis, while also providing an overview of the prevalent mental, emotional and behavioral disorders affecting this demographic in society. Participants will gain insights into expected social and emotional behaviors of children and teens along the stress continuum model, which will enable them to recognize signs of potential mental health disorders and determine when professional help is necessary. The training also explores the impact of adverse childhood events and emphasizes the importance of implementing positive childhood events to foster better mental well-being.
